Lest I add 109 to the thread...I'm posting MY favorite line, but of course I have to tell a story behind it. I'm missing my car, which I had to unhappily "donate" and I am remembering how I missed my car last February...
I watched Lebowski on a Friday that February, and I shamefully confess it was my first time, though I consider myself a big Coen Bros fan.?
Then Saturday followed, and I went out to my "carport" all ready for a day trip out of Oaktown to SF. MY CAR WAS VANISHED. AND uninsured, so I was panic-struck. This was an aged and totally wrecked up Civic, but I wanted it back bad.
Got the O.P.D. to come take a report. Nice guys, but absolutely NO interest in my problem. They ignored the neighbor who had witnessed a couple of street toughs struggling the car out of my driveway. I pleaded with them to care, but they just did the least that they needed to do. Then gave me the number to call so that I could be "updated" on their progress.
In those few agonizing days after the theft, I would take the number and the phone, desperate for some news, for some LEADS! But before I could dial, words echoed in my head...
"Leads? Yeah, sure. I'll...uh...just check with the boys down at the crimelab. Yeah. They got four more detectives on the case. They got us working in shifts." (Thanks for posting this...Alex?)
I was never able to make the call. Never heard back from them either....odd.
I did, however, conduct my own search, and on Day 5 found the car approx. 6 miles from my apt. Both emptied and trashed. Signed by the Murder Dubs themselves! But it ran. And that story ended happily! Thanks for listening.

" In the briefcase?"
"Uh....uh, papers. Just papers...you know, my papers...business papers."
"And what do you do sir?"
"I'm unemployed." -

Re: Got some leads for me?
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 10:36 AMALL of the ABOVE! Right on.
Oh wait. Creedence tape not there! The Murder Dubs are pretty ruthless. Of the hundreds of items in the car, they left only the following: a scrunchie, some eyedrops, an old Berkeley Rep schedule, their "signs" written with my lipstick, and the remains of that lipstick.
And there WERE papers. And I AM now unemployed. -

Re: Got some leads for me?
Fri, May 6, 2005 - 9:33 PMJust got home from Illinois, lock the front door, oh boy!
Got to sit down, take a rest on the porch.
Imagination sets in, pretty soon I'm singing,
Doo, doo, doo, Looking out my back door.
There's a giant doing cartwheels,
A statue wearing high heels.
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
A dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens.
Tambourines and elephants are playing in the band.
Won't you take a ride on the flying spoon?
Doo, doo doo.
Wond'rous apparition provided by magician. -

Mon, May 9, 2005 - 12:53 AMHey Suzen, probably a vagrant slept in the car. Or maybe just used it as a toilet and moved on.
